Personal Injury Claim: Keeping an Injury Diary

Personal Injury Claim: Keeping an Injury Diary

If you have sustained injuries as a result of someone else’s negligence you may be eligible for compensation by way of a personal injury claim. One of the important aspects of gaining compensation in a personal injury claim is having proof of the injuries sustained as well as the effects such injuries have had on your day-to-day life. One way of having proof of such injuries is by keeping a car accident diary so as to protect your claim. This article will discuss how to keep a car accident diary to protect your claim and the necessary information to add to it. One of the most important things you can do after a car accident is to keep a diary about the crash, focusing on such things as how it happened, how it affected you physically and mentally and the impact of the accident on your life in the days and weeks afterward. The best way to keep a diary is to begin making entries immediately after the accident and continue making them until you recover from your injuries. It is important to begin your diary with a detailed description of your car accident. Start with everything you can think of, even details that seem insignificant at first can turn out to be crucial to a personal injury claim. During your description is important to tell who was involved, what happened, when, where and how the accident occurred. Also include a description of the weather conditions, lighting conditions, the names and telephone numbers of witnesses and the most precise times and distances that you can establish. Be sure to include a diagram that shows the point of impact and the points where the vehicles came to rest. Thereafter, you can start making notes about you claim, for example addressing how the accident has affected your life. Entries into your diary with regards to your car accident must be made as often as you have something to report. In the early stages it is likely that you will have more frequent entries as compared to when your recovery progresses and your accident has less of an impact on your day to day life. However, try to record at least one entry a week until your car insurance claim or car accident lawsuit is resolved. It is important to realize that the diary you are keeping is to collect and preserve information that you will need when you make your injury claim. However, your diary is also important to tell your doctor what you are experiencing, therefore, you can use your notes to report your symptoms and limitations because of your accident injuries. This is of the utmost importance because insurance adjusters do not value what you tell them but put a lot of weight on information contained in medical records. In addition, your diary is there to remind you of all that you have experienced and to use its information to convey a thorough explanation of your experiences to the insurance company when you make your claim.
